Our story 
The Training of Trainers brought together fifteen technicians from across the Cool Up partner countries to learn about the safe handling of natural refrigerants.
Training of Trainers
In June 2023, the Training of Trainers took place in Istanbul, Türkiye.
The five-day course prepared trainers to facilitate onward trainings in their home countries, developed within the framework of the Cool Up programme. Participants gained knowledge on natural refrigerants and sustainable cooling through exploration of both theoretical and practical examples.
Capacity building plays a key role in the uptake of new technologies, and sustainable cooling is no exception. Cool Up’s holistic approach to upscaling sustainable cooling supports technical skills training.
Together with Master Trainers from Centro Studi Galileo, we offered training on safe handling of natural refrigerants, bringing together 15 experts from our action hubs in the MENA region and Türkiye. The training covered a broad range of topics, including:
- Background on natural refrigerants
- Creating a safe work environment
- Working safely with a variety of natural refrigerants
- Hazard analysis
- Operating conditions
- Reducing leak potential and improving resilience
- Installation and commissioning of R744 systems
- Service and repair
- Flammable refrigerants
- Cylinders, storage, handling
- Compressor changing procedures
- Flammability versus GWP
- Repair of refrigeration equipment with flammable refrigerants
