Roundtable at the Guidehouse office, moderated by Cool Up’s programme manager Dr. Nesen Surmeli Anac, convened cross-sector experts to unpack risks and explore actionable strategies for mitigating extreme heat. The session focused on the cascading impacts of extreme heat on healthcare, cold chains, energy systems, transport and built environment—highlighting vulnerabilities such as power outages, equipment failures, and increased demand for emergency services. Particular attention was given to the fragility of cold chains and healthcare delivery during heatwaves, and the public health risks that arise when these systems falter.

The roundtable prompted participants to identify infrastructure weaknesses and explore collaborative strategies for resilience. The discussion emphasized the need for integrated approaches involving policymakers, service providers, insurers, and community leaders. National cooling action plans and heat emergency frameworks were also discussed as vital tools for adaptation. The event concluded with a networking reception, offering attendees the opportunity to continue conversations and build partnerships aimed at strengthening climate resilience.
