Egypt has received official approval for the Compressor Conversion Project, with a budget allocation of approximately USD 1 million, during the 97th Meeting of the Executive Committee (ExCom) under the Montreal Protocol. The Executive Committee for the Montreal Protocol manages the Multilateral Fund, which assists countries in phasing out ozone-depleting and controlled substances. The committee comprises 14 members and is responsible for setting policies, approving project funding, guiding fund administration, and ensuring that financial mechanisms effectively protect the ozone layer.

The awarded project aims to convert hermetic compressors to enable the production of inverter compressor technology, supporting the transition towards more energy-efficient cooling solutions in Egypt. Cool Up contributed to the preparatory studies for this project by providing technical input for a feasibility study, which was reflected in the approved submission. The leadership of Ole Reinholdt Nielsen, Senior Expert at Öko-Recherche, was crucial in preparing the technical and economic studies, as well as the significant support from Amir Nakhla on the ground in Egypt.

This approval highlights the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing sustainable cooling technologies. Cool Up looks forward to continuing its cooperation with partners in Egypt throughout 2026.
