Finalising Egypt’s national cooling action plan: Highlights of the NCAP second interim workshop in Ain Sokhna
Date: 23rd and 24th April 2026
Location: Ain Sokhna, Egypt
On 23rd and 24th April 2026, the Cool Up programme convened a two-day workshop in Ain Sokhna to support the finalisation of Egypt’s National Cooling Action Plan (NCAP). Organised by Cool Up’s country partner in Egypt, the Integrated Development Group (IDG), in close collaboration with the National Ozone Unit (NOU) of the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA).
The workshop brought together the Steering Committee for Sustainable Cooling in Egypt, convening a broad range of national stakeholders and technical experts. Participants included representatives from the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy, the Ministry of Housing, including the General Organization for Physical Planning (GOPP), New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), and Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC). Additional participants joined from the Ministry of International Cooperation, Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, Ministry of Agriculture, and Ministry of Health, alongside contributions from the Federation of Egyptian Industries, ASHRAE, United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and leading national experts.
The workshop provided a platform for in-depth discussions on mitigation pathways and modelling scenarios for sustainable cooling in Egypt. Participants reviewed and refined the proposed measures and advanced discussions on implementation mechanisms and a robust monitoring framework. The sessions reflected a strong commitment to coordinated, cross-sectoral action to advance Egypt’s sustainable cooling agenda.
The Cool Up team extends its sincere appreciation to the distinguished attendees for their active participation and valuable contributions throughout the workshop. Their engagement and insights were instrumental in shaping the dialogue, contextualizing the NCAP measures to national priorities, and advancing a collective vision for sustainable cooling and climate action. This strong sense of ownership and leadership continues to reinforce the collaborative spirit underpinning both the NCAP process and the broader Cool Up programme.
