Jordan’s 3rd NEEAP published: Cool Up supports sustainable cooling policy design
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) of Jordan has officially released the Third National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) for 2024–2026. As a key national framework for improving energy efficiency, the new plan outlines ambitious measures across all major sectors to reduce energy consumption, support climate goals, and enhance economic resilience.
The Cool Up programme supported the MEMR under “Component C6: Promoting Sustainable Cooling and the Use of Natural Refrigerants”, by providing technical input and support to the development of five targeted measures:
- C6.1: Establishment of a certification scheme for technicians in the refrigeration and air conditioning (RAC) sector
- C6.2: Capacity building and awareness-raising on sustainable cooling and natural refrigerants
- C6.3: Development of Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and energy labelling for commercial refrigeration
- C6.4: MEPS and energy labelling programme for commercial air conditioning
- C6.5: Design of financial incentives for energy-efficient appliances using natural refrigerants
These measures aim to promote market readiness, raise awareness, and create an enabling environment for energy-efficient cooling solutions that align with the Kigali Amendment and national climate commitments.
The 3rd NEEAP builds on the progress of the previous two action plans. With this latest edition, Jordan signals a continued commitment to policy-driven action on sustainable energy. The measures supported by Cool Up are expected to reduce energy use in the RAC sector, enhance technical capacities, and accelerate the uptake of climate-friendly technologies in Jordan’s growing cooling market.
