Strengthening provincial capacity: Cool Up and Turkish Climate Change Directorate continue training on climate policy and sustainable cooling
From 9–11 April 2025, Cool Up’s country partner in Türkiye, UNDP Türkiye, in collaboration with the Turkish Directorate of Climate Change, organized an informational seminar in Antalya for staff from the Provincial Directorates of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change. The seminar brought together 84 participants from 47 provincial directorates, aiming to enhance technical capacity and knowledge on climate-related policies and sustainable cooling practices.
Throughout the three-day seminar, participants explored a wide range of topics critical to advancing Türkiye’s climate and environmental goals. Sessions covered climate change fundamentals, the upcoming climate law, regulations on fluorinated greenhouse gases, efforts to combat illegal trade, mechanisms for monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of greenhouse gas emissions, inspection procedures, and sustainable cooling solutions.
This training session built on the first seminar held in February 2025, which engaged staff from 27 provincial directorates. Both events have strengthened the skills of staff across 74 provincial directorates throughout Türkiye, supporting the implementation of national climate policies at the local level.
By continuing to build capacity at the provincial level, Cool Up and the Directorate of Climate Change aim to ensure stronger enforcement of climate legislation, foster the adoption of sustainable cooling solutions, and support Türkiye’s transition to a low-carbon economy.
