MEETMED Week

With the title "Together Towards Efficient Buildings and Appliances in the Mediterranean", the MeetMED Week took place in Cairo, Egypt and was streamed online. In the context of the MeetMED Week Cool Up's Eslam Mahdy and RCREEE presented on 26 March at 16:30 Cairo time at the event 'Training Course and Study Tour on “District Cooling in the South Mediterranean Countries”' in Cairo. The presentation covered the "Status of Sustainable Cooling in MENA Region: Insights from the Cool Up Programme". On 30 March at 11:20 Cairo time Katja Eisbrenner and Andreas Hermelink (Cool Up) joined a MeetMED Week panel entitled "'Efficient Appliances’ to Facilitate Energy Transition in SEMCs."

Middle East and North Africa Climate Week 2022

The Cool Up team attended the MENA Climate Week from 28 – 31 March in Dubai. The first-ever Middle East and North Africa Regional Climate Week accelerated collaboration and integrated climate action into global pandemic recovery. The event brought together key stakeholders to take the pulse of climate action in the region, explore climate challenges and opportunities and showcase ambitious solutions. It is hosted by the Government of the United Arab Emirates.

ATMO World Summit 2022

The Cool Up team attended the ATMO World Summit on 30 - 31 March. Cool Up hosted a webinar on 30 March at 13:00 CET entitled "MENA Region in Focus: Insights from the New Cool Up Programme." The World Summit 2022 was a full day online event (24 hours) with on-the-hour webinars starting at 10:00 am March 30th in the Central European time zone, followed by the Americas, and then Asia Pacific. The topic of the summit was The Future of Cooling and Heating in 2022 and had a wide range of stakeholders with a focus on natural refrigerants.

Joint webinar with the Global Cool Cities Alliance

Cool Up and the Global Cool Cities Alliance hosted a webinar entitled “Sustainable Cooling at the Urban and Building Levels: Cooling Buildings from the Outside In.” In this webinar, the Cool Up programme and Global Cool Cities Alliance (GCCA) discussed how cool surfaces at the urban level can work together with other sustainable cooling measures at the building level to achieve climate-friendly cooling. We looked at solutions that can be scaled up in the MENA region and across the globe.

Our holistic approach to upscaling sustainable cooling

This snapshot provides an at-a-glance view of the Cool Up programme. It outlines the need to tackle the cooling challenge in the partner countries and how Cool Up aims to do so. It depicts the cross-segmental focus of the programme, the thematic work areas, cross-cutting activities, and desired impacts. The team, duration and geographic scope of the project are also shown.
